Delicious, nourishing meals have never been a question for some families living in Galkuliya; a village in the Puttlam district where Dhanushka was born. Poverty in her region was quite widespread, thus contributing to a low degree of physical and mental development in both young and old.
With Dhanushka’s flair for social work and her previous skills and experience in a similar capacity, her dream was to become a social worker whilst pursuing her studies.
By selecting the 20 most unprivileged families in her region; she drew up her action plan to carry out a dynamic agricultural project to cultivate vegetables and plants which could be easily prepared in to wholesome meals. Her objective behind this was to give underpriveledged people access to a better meal.
Although funding was not sufficient, the Ministry of Agriculture was able to help her in this noble cause as well as funding from World Vision.
