According to this young energetic activist from Trincomalee, health should be the main concern of everyone. If anybody wants to live longer they should take care of their health and as a community we should take possible action to prevent sicknesses. In his perception, HIV /AIDS is a major threat to society devastating youth. According to him, lack of awareness on health issues can dramatically change human life expectancy.
Jaseer was involved in facilitating the setting up of a Health Centre in Muttur North through the involvement of a Sports Club in which he is the Secretary. Unfortunately this health centre which he was successful in setting up was destroyed six months back during heightened fighting in the area. Yet, Jaseer and few others were able to speak to the local Christian Childrens’ Fund office and were able to initiate a project under their auspices, whereby a common health centre was to be established for the villages of Vattam and Rakuwa Nagar in Muttur North. The work has been affected following clashes that erupted in August 2006.
Jaseer also established the ‘Muttur Emergency Services and Development Association’ in February 2006 with the help of fellow young activists. The Association is involved in many activities in partnership with many NGOs and CBOs in the region involved in increasing health awareness. The association also helped in critical situations as a proactive disaster management initiative.
Jaseer himself was displaced from Muttur and is presently residing in Kanthalei. He is involved in managing the welfare centre that he initiated. Additionally, he is also involved in the initial coordination of relief activities with the assistance of local mosques and Muslim organizations.
