Colombo, January 21st 2009 - At a crucial period of her long history, when Sri Lanka can emerge from the troubled past to a proud and honorable future, when committee action for change by individuals can make a change, when individuals can and must be the agents of change in their homes, communities, villages, countries.. The Mother Sri Lanka Program is launched to promote activities for positive change and which calls on Sri Lankans- of all communities, religions, ethnicities, ages, gender and political persuasions- to commit to make a change and restore pride and honors in Sri Lanka, our Motherland. The Program has leadership and direction from the President’s Office and support from corporate sponsors and other entities.
Sri Lanka is entering a new stage in her history- a new era of peace and prosperity – where the people of this wonderful country can unite and engage positively to re-make their futures and turn the page of all the tribulations and lost opportunities of the past. Today, we can engage to make the future more positive and make our lives better too. If we come together – regardless of our differences- the prosperous future will arrive sooner in our lives.
Sri Lanka is blessed with a fertile land, a stunningly beautiful environment, a tradition of literacy and a healthcare system that is recognized worldwide, an intelligent and friendly people, a strong family and community support system- all these are not lost to us and will be the foundation for the better tomorrow. Most of Sri Lankans eagerly await the end of the conflict where we can all enjoy peace and prosperity but still many doubts and are negative about Sri Lanka. Imagine if we all joined together and said Yes, if we started to engage in building future we want, if we start thinking and working positively. A positive attitude and collective action can help grow this country and we can come together to take this country to its full potential. Remember how we celebrated as one when Sri Lanka won the world Cricket World Cup and how we came together as one to help another after Asian Tsunami? Today, in our hour of Victory and Need, we should once again come together to ensure that the promise of peace and prosperity dawns in this great country. And most importantly, our children feel pride to be Sri Lankan.
Today sees the launch of the Mother Sri Lanka Programme – a programme which seeks to bring diverse perspectives under one umbrella to develop positive thinking and action in Sri Lanka.
• To rekindle pride in being Sri Lankan
• To generate a revolution of faith and optimism in the country.
• To inculcate a confidant and proactively positive attitude.
• And to charge every Sri Lanka with this positive energy.
Objectives of the Mother Sri Lanka Programme:
• Conduct activities, programmes, communication campaigns to build pride in being Sri Lankan and to develop positive thinking about Sri Lanka.
• Activate grass root activity to contribute towards nation building through the development of professional, physical and spiritual wellbeing of all Sri Lankans
• Attract international resources towards developing Sri Lanka, through motivating Sri Lankans and interest groups overseas.
The Mother Sri Lanka programme calls for an action oriented change in the behavior fuelled by gradual shift in the perceptions will lead towards positivism and optimism. The campaign will create wide scale awareness in people across all sectors regardless of age, ethnicity, religion or class and as a wakeup call to look at things differently and actually lead to action.
